Impact of Metro Cell Antenna Pattern and Downtilt in Heterogeneous Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
positive impact metro cell antennas with narrow vertical beamwidth and electrical downtilt can have on heterogeneous cellular networks. Using a model of random cell placement based on Poisson distribution, along with an innovative 3D building model that quantifies blockage due to shadowing, it is demonstrated that network spectral efficiency and average user throughput both increase as vertical beamwidth is decreased and downtilt is applied to metro cell transmission. Moreover, the network becomes more energy efficient. Importantly, these additional gains in network performance can be achieved without any cooperation or exchange of information between macro cell base stations and metro cells.

Optimal Base Station Antenna Downtilt in Downlink Cellular Networks
From very recent studies, the area spectral efficiency (ASE) performance of downlink (DL) cellular networks will continuously decrease and finally to zero with the network densification in a fully loaded ultra-dense network (UDN) when the absolute height difference between a base station (BS) antenna and a user equipment (UE) antenna is larger than zero, which is referred as the ASE Crash. We r...
متن کاملOptimum Antenna Downtilt Angles for Macrocellular WCDMA Network
The impact of antenna downtilt on the performance of cellular WCDMA network has been studied by using a radio network planning tool. An optimum downtilt angle has been evaluated for a numerous practical macrocellular site and antenna configurations for electrical and mechanical antenna downtilt concepts. The aim of this massive simulation campaign was expected to provide an answer to two questi...

متن کاملModeling of 3D Field Patterns of Downtilted Antennas and Their Impact on Cellular Systems
Advanced multi-antenna techniques, such as multiuser MIMO (MU-MIMO) and cooperative transmission are known to increase system performance in cellular deployments. However, it is well known that cellular systems suffer from multicell interference. Antenna downtilt is a common method used to adjust interference conditions especially in urban scenarios with a high base station density. Performance...
متن کاملField Trial Evaluation of 3D Beamforming in a Multicell Scenario
3D beamforming is a technique which allows the adaptation of the base station (BS) antenna downtilt per user equipment (UE). The selection of the appropriate downtilt depends on the propagation properties of the environment. This paper investigates the optimum downtilt angle in a typical nonline-of-sight (NLOS) urban outdoor environment. Therefore measurements with variable downtilt have been c...
